Tachi-Herb® (S68 Hawthorn c.) By Leo Ingredients: Alcohol, Water, extracts of: HAWTHORN (Crataegus oxyacantha Medicus) flowering tops, OAT (Avena sativa L.) tops, VALERIAN (Valeriana officinalis L.) rhizomes, MELISSA ( Melissa officinalis L.) aerial parts, CACTUS (Cereus grandiflorus Mill.) flowers. Keywords: tachycardia, hypertension, anxiety. Characteristics: It is useful against cardiac disorders of nervous origin, excessive heart fatigue and aging of the heart. Weakening of the myocardium after an infection, in palpitations and a sense of apprehension. The Cactus grandiflorus is remembered for its cardiac, stimulant and diuretic properties, expressed by a mix of active ingredients known as cactin and hordenine. Cactin is used in the treatment of heart failure resulting from excess caffeine or tobacco or caused by nervous disorders; Hordenine is a cardiac tonic and has hypotensive properties. The root of the Valerian plant, with its unmistakable unpleasant odor, contains essential oils (valerianic acid esters, valeric acid esters, caryophyllene, terpinolene, valerenol, valerenal and diterpene compounds known as iridoids), some alkaloids (valerin , actinidin, catinine and alpha-pyrylketone) and flavonoids (linarin, 6-methylapigenin and hesperidin). The mechanism of action of its constituents is quite well known. The esters of valerianic acids and iridoids have the ability to inhibit the enzyme (gamma-aminobutyric acid transaminase) responsible for the metabolic degradation of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). This chemical mediator is responsible for regulating neuronal excitability throughout the nervous system, the sensation of relaxation and the induction of sleep. It is no coincidence that many drugs with a calming, muscle-relaxing, anticonvulsant and hypnotic action act by stimulating GABA receptors (in technical terms they are said to be its receptor agonists). Due to the presence of these active ingredients, valerian has sedative, relaxing and hypno-inducing properties, i.e. promoting sleep. By reducing the time needed to fall asleep and improving its quality, valerian is indicated for all disorders, insomnia and anxiety. Finally, it seems that some of the terpenes and flavonoids can act as agonists with adenosine receptors and be partly responsible for the spasmolytic action on smooth muscles, useful in case of cramps and irritable bowel syndrome.
